Qingdao Government | MAY 21,2025

Deputy Chief of the CPC Qingdao Municipal Committee and Mayor of Qingdao City Ren Gang held separate meetings with the Consul General of Japan in Qingdao Kenji Saito, the Consul General of South Korea in Qingdao Ryu Chang-soo, and the Consul General of Thailand in Qingdao Sata Arayakul respectively on May 19.

Ren Gang expressed his appreciation to the consuls general for their efforts in promoting exchanges and cooperation between their respective countries and Qingdao. He noted that Qingdao, as a key coastal city in China, stands out for its strong maritime character, solid manufacturing base, advanced port and shipping infrastructure, and prominent openness. Full of vitality in its economic and social development, Ren Gang emphasized Qingdao's earnest implementation of President Xi Jinping's important instructions regarding the development of Shandong and Qingdao to accelerate the region's transformation into a modern international metropolis. Japan, South Korea, and Thailand, as close neighbors of China, have always been important partners to China and Qingdao is committed to enhancing regular communications mechanisms with the three countries to expand trade, encourage two-way investment, promote tourism cooperation, and deepen cultural exchanges—all for Qingdao to achieve higher-level mutual benefit and win-win outcomes as a gateway for northern China's opening-up. The city will continue to provide strong support for consular operations and foster a favorable environment for foreign businesses investing and operating in Qingdao.

Kenji Saito stated that Japan and Qingdao share geographical proximity and cultural affinities. He expressed hope that both sides could better leverage their respective strengths, expand exchanges and cooperation across various fields, and elevate bilateral ties to a new level.

Ryu Chang-soo expressed his gratitude to Qingdao for its longstanding support of South Korean businesses and expatriates in the city. He said the consulate would continue to serve as a bridge, helping to attract more South Korean enterprises to invest in Qingdao.

Sata Arayakul highly praised the achievements of cooperation between Thailand and Qingdao, stating that he would continue working to promote exchanges in trade, tourism, and education to further deepen mutual trust and strengthen friendship.
